Tonight, President Joe Biden delivered his first State of the Union Address. Not only was he delivering an address to the American People and Congress, but also to our allies and adversaries around the world. Below are the main highlights of his speech.
Ukraine Crisis
We are ready and we are united to fight with Ukraine against Russia
The free world— the United States and our allies— are holding Putin accountable.
To the Russian oligarchs: “No more. The US DOJ is forming a commission to go after the Russian oligarchs.”
Putin alone is the one to blame for the war in Ukraine.
The US is not going to war with Russia. Troops are deployed to defend NATO countries in the event that Russia moves west.
COVID and Infrastructure
American Rescue Plan delivered much needed relief to working families, unlike the $2 trillion Trump tax cuts.
Trickle down economics has not worked. We must build the economy from the bottom up and from the middle out.
We are done talking about infrastructure weeks. We are now talking about an infrastructure decade, thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
We must pass the Bipartisan Innovation Act to advance American technology to compete with the rest of the world.
To combat inflation, lower costs— not wages. To do this, we must (1) cut cost of prescription drugs. (2) invest in clean energy. (3) cut the cost of child care.
Nobody earning less than $400,000 a year will not pay an extra penny in taxes.
The DOJ will soon name a special prosecutor to investigate pandemic fraud surrounding PPP loans.
Pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Raise the minimum wage to $15.
Pass the PRO Act to invest in unions.
It is time to get to a new normal in America. We must learn to live with covid. We have remedies at our disposal.
Covid is not partisan.
Criminal Justice and Immigration
We must restore trust and safety in communities across the country. We must invest in community policing to restore this trust and hold law enforcement accountable.
We must fund the police with the resources and trainings they need to protect our communities.
Pass universal background checks.
Protect the right to vote, don’t subvert it.
We must secure our border and fix the immigration system.
Provide a path to citizenship for DACA recipients.
Promoting Equality
Roe v. Wade must be preserved and uphold a woman’s right to choose. We must move forward, not backward.
Pass the Bipartisan Equality Act to ensure equality for LGBTQ+ Americans.
Strengthen the Violence Against Women Act
The Unity Agenda
Support a UNITY Agenda: (1) Beat the opioid epidemic. (2) Tackle the mental health crisis. (3) Support our veterans. (4) End cancer through the Cancer Moonshot Initiative.
The State of Our Union
Stop seeing each other as enemies, but as fellow Americans.
We are the only nation on earth that has turned every crisis into an opportunity.
The State of Our Union is strong because the American People are strong.
